LONDON, October 9, 2011 – WorldSkills London was held from October 5-8, with over 950 participants from 51 countries competing in 46 different skill categories. The event demonstrated excellence in vocational training, as some of the most talented youth from around the world competed for the coveted gold medal in their respective skill.
As a Global Industry Partner of WorldSkills International, and official sponsor of WorldSkills London, Lincoln Electric was the exclusive provider of equipment, consumables and fume extraction for the welding competition. These products were also utilized in the Manufacturing Team Challenge, Sheet Metal Technology and Construction Metal Work competitions.
After four intense days of competition, the medalists were announced during the Closing Ceremony at The O2 Arena. For the welding portion, Hyeon Woo Kim of Korea led the way with a cumulative score of 540 points across the various tasks. This continued a strong tradition of success for Korea, as they have won four gold medals in this skill category since 2000. Fuente: The Competition had a significant impact on local schools and colleges, with large groups from throughout London testing their skills with the “Have a Go” activities and Contact areas. Lincoln had a strong presence at these locations, including a booth where attendees could get a hands-on demonstration of the Company’s Robotic Education Welding Cell and VRTEX® 360 virtual reality arc welding trainer.
